The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has revised the Judicial Service Rules, abolishing the requirement of two years of legal practice for appointment as a civil judge.

According to an official notification, Rule 5 of the Judicial Service Rules has been amended, removing seniority and fitness from the selection criteria. Under the revised framework, future appointments will be made strictly on the basis of merit.

The notification further states that promotions will be carried out on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee. It adds that regular promotions from BPS-19 to BPS-21 will require completion of the prescribed length of service.
