Session to vote on the no-confidence motion has been convened for 3:00 pm today under Article 27 of the AJK Constitution, on orders of Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar
Islamabad/Muzaffarabad: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Nov 17th, 2025) : Voting on the no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq will take place today, as lawmakers from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PTI forward bloc, and other members of the AJK Legislative Assembly arrive in Muzaffarabad amid heightened security arrangements.
According to assembly officials, the session to vote on the no-confidence motion has been convened for 3:00 pm today under Article 27 of the AJK Constitution, on the orders of Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar.
Meanwhile, the PPP has claimed that its support in the no-confidence move has increased from 36 to 38 members, with two more lawmakers from the PTI forward bloc reportedly joining the motion.
The PML-N has confirmed it will vote against the Prime Minister, though it has clarified that it will not become part of the new government. The party continues to demand early elections in AJK. The no-confidence motion carries the signatures of PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir and former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider.
Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq has decided to face the no-confidence motion rather than resign.
To pass, the motion requires a simple majority of 27 votes in the 53-member House. If successful, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq—who secured 48 votes when elected in April 2023—will be removed from office.
In the event of the motion’s success, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore is expected to become AJK’s 16th Prime Minister, and the fourth Prime Minister during the tenure of the current assembly.
His oath-taking ceremony is likely to be held tomorrow (Tuesday), with senior PPP leadership expected to attend.
Major Challenges for the New Government
The incoming government will face two significant political challenges:
Implementation of the agreements reached with the Action Committee, which could prove to be a major governance test.
PML-N’s insistence on early elections, which may create additional political pressure.
Furthermore, restricting the cabinet to 20 ministers, as mandated, will also be a substantial challenge for the new administration.
