Bagh, Mirpur (AJK): All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter took out grand rallies in Bagh and Mirpur, AJK, on the occasion of Right to Self-Determination Day today.
According to Global Mirror, the rally in Bagh, led by APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi started from Haideri Chowk and ended after reaching Press Club, Bagh.
Political, social and religious parties of Azad Kashmir, traders, civil society, students, refugees and and the general people in large numbers participated in the rally.
The participants were holding flags of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, banners demanding a plebiscite from the United Nations and placards against Indian atrocities, while the atmosphere was continuously resonating with anti- India and pro-freedom slogans.
On the occasion, the rally turned into an enthusiastic public meeting near the Press Club, Bagh, where various political, religious and social leaders gave speeches and fully expressed the feelings, emotions and struggle for freedom of the Kashmiri people.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi in his address said the unity, discipline and awareness that the political, social and religious leadership of Bagh besides traders, civil society and the conscious people have demonstrated on the occasion of the Right to Self-Determination Day is a clear and undeniable message to the world and especially the United Nations that the people of Kashmir are not ready to give up their struggle under any circumstances.
He said that the Kashmiri people have rendered unprecedented sacrifices and would continue their struggle till taking the freedom movement to its logical conclusion.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi clarified that the so-called development projects in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the occupation of Kashmiri lands, the construction of railway lines and fake elections can never be a substitute for the right to vote enshrined in the UN resolutions.
APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Pervaiz Ahmed Shah addressing the seminar said the UN resolution of January 5, 1949 is a strong legal and moral basis for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute, but unfortunately the Kashmiri people are continuously deprived of their right to self-determination. He warned that until this long-pending dispute is resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions, instability and the threat of nuclear conflict will continue to loom in South Asia.
Former Convener Mahmood Ahmed Sagar said the right to self-determination gives equal right to all units of Jammu and Kashmir, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists, to decide their own future. He stressed that only the unity of Kashmiris across the world can compel the international community to morally and politically support the stand of the Kashmiri people.
PML-N, Azad Kashmir, leaders Sardar Mir Akbar, Khawaja Shabbir Shamim, PPP leaders Ijaz Baig, Maulana Atiq Ahmed Naqshbandi, Deputy Commissioner Raja Sadaqat, Sardar Tahir Akbar, Qazi Sajid Chughtai, Sardar Asif, Masood Baig, Malik Aftab and other speakers in their addresses paid tribute to the Kashmiris for their undying struggle and demanded the immediate release of Kashmiri detainees.
They appealed to the United Nations to take immediate notice of the worst human rights violations and atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and play its effective role in ensuring the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.
