New Delhi: Almost 62 lakh names have been deleted from West Bengal’s final voters’ list, showing an 8% fall in the total electorate. The final list of 7.04 crore electors was released by the Chief Electoral Officer.
According to Global Mirror, the deletions include 61,78,245 voters, with 60.06 lakh more flagged for review by Supreme Court-appointed judicial officers. These voters can’t cast their votes until cleared.
West Bengal is third in voter deletions after Tamil Nadu (74 lakh) and Gujarat (68 lakh). The BJP-led NDA government has been vocal about removing infiltrators from the state.
