Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, police have registered a case against Member of Parliament Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and former Srinagar mayor Junaid Azim Mattu for sharing photographs of protests against the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel strike and for criticising the Modi regime’s silence over the development on social media.

According to Global Mirror, in a statement posted on X, Indian police said, it acted on “credible inputs” regarding the circulation of content aimed at creating fear, disturbing public order and inciting unlawful activities. The police claimed that the material reflected dissemination of distorted narratives and unverified information capable of causing unrest and societal disharmony. However, police have not publicly specified the exact content deemed misleading.

Cases were registered at the Cyber Police Station, Srinagar, the draconian law, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities said investigations have been initiated and further legal action would follow as warranted under law.
