As Holi festivities light up Delhi, the Delhi Police have swung into action with a comprehensive deployment to ensure public safety and maintain law and order across the city. Over 15,000 personnel have been mobilised to enforce strict regulations, particularly focusing on road safety during this vibrant festival.

The Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out an elaborate traffic management plan, with special emphasis on curbing dangerous driving behaviours. Teams have been stationed at 134 major intersections and vulnerable stretches to crack down on key violations.

These include drunken driving, speeding, reckless or zig-zag manoeuvres, red-light jumping, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmets, using mobile phones while driving, and performing stunts.

A senior police officer highlighted that the primary focus remains preventing drunken driving. “Our staff are deployed at around 134 major intersections, with senior officers supervising the arrangements,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Gupta. “We will make every possible effort to curb all traffic violations, and strict action will be taken wherever they are detected.”

In line with directives from the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, serious offences—such as drunken driving, dangerous driving, speeding, mobile phone use while driving, and red-light jumping—will result in immediate seizure of the driving licence, with suspension for a minimum of three months.

The police have also warned that registered vehicle owners will face legal action if their vehicles are driven by minors or unauthorised individuals. Authorities emphasised that they will actively monitor and act on violations captured and shared on social media platforms.

With these proactive measures, the Delhi Police aim to ensure a joyous, incident-free Holi by promoting responsible behaviour on the roads and safeguarding lives amid the celebrations. — With Agencies Inputs
