Baripada (Odisha):A 14-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by a group of villagers who suspected him of stealing a goat in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Another minor was seriously injured in the incident.
According to reports, some locals detained the boy, identified as Sambit, along with three of his friends on suspicion of goat theft. While two of the boys managed to escape, Sambit was allegedly assaulted by the mob.
He was staying at his uncle’s house and studying at a government high school in Basingi village under the Beherda police station limits.
Police have arrested 12 persons in connection with the incident and launched an investigation. The tragic event has once again raised concerns about mob violence and taking the law into one’s own hands.Authorities have urged people not to resort to violence based on suspicion and to report such matters to the police.
