Srinagar: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has called for a review of the life sentence awarded to Kashmiri woman Hurriyat leader Aasiya Andrabi and her aides.
According to Global Mirror, Mehbooba Mufti talking to the media in Srinagar said that life imprisonment till the person is alive should be abolished. “…humanity requires that, as Aasiya Andrabi is an aged woman who has already spent several years in jail, her sentence should be reconsidered,” Mufti said.
The PDP leader called for Andrabi’s release on parole, citing humanitarian grounds. “I appeal that it (sentence) should be reconsidered. She should be released on parole, even if conditional, and her conviction should be reviewed,” she added.
