Kanpur: Upper-caste Hindu men brutally assaulted and humiliated a 16-year-old Dalit boy in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh for touching a bucket at a public handpump.

According to Global Mirror, the incident occurred in Jhakhra-Sambharpur village under Sachendi Police Station, Kanpur. The teenager, son of a farm labourer, said Sanjay Rajput, his brother Deepak, and associates Sagar Kumar and Patiya Kumar attacked him after he took water from a bucket belonging to upper-caste villagers.

The boy told the media that the men snatched the mug, hurled casteist slurs, and accused him of polluting the water source. “They beat me for nearly half an hour.
